This past Saturday David and I took a
pre-adoptive infant care class. It was really fun to take the class together and to meet other waiting couples. We met some lovely couples including one that is working with our home study provider! It's always nice to be able to talk with folks that are in similar stages as us. I felt more "normal" in a roomful of potential adoptive families rather than talking about adoption with folks that can't really relate. Does that make sense? It's not that our friends and family aren't supportive but it's just talking to couples that are actually going through what we are going through makes a world of difference. We learned a lot and laughed a lot. Plus, I learned that my husband can diaper, clothe and swaddle a baby doll faster than any other guy I know! Man he was fast! If he keeps that up he may be taking care of all diaper changes and swaddling once we have our little one home ;) We received some great advice for when we will need to travel including some suggestions I hadn't thought of so that was probably the most helpful part of the class. We also learned a lot about the various types of bottles, formula, clothes etc...seriously, babies require a lot of stuff! We must have done
ok because we left with our certificate of completion (which everyone did actually)!!

Sunday night we went out to dinner and to see the Lion King on Broadway, it was AWESOME! I know I am a total dork but I loved it. I sang along and grinned like a 4 year old the entire time. The opening of the show was amazing and I actually teared up! It was so neat the way the performers created the animals and having second row seats wasn't half bad ;) I would highly recommend the show especially to those that love the Lion King!
We really had such a lovely weekend! I had the itch to book a tropical vacation but I restrained myself. Probably not the best idea to be spending our money and vacation time...still tempted though!

Sounds like a fun class! I totally know what you mean about feeling the most "normal" around other adoptive families. I'm the same way! Last summer after I had recently met my neighbor who had adopted and we had swapped our tragic, infertile pasts, she plopped her 3 month old in my arms and said "Here. I know you won't mind holding him because he' adopted." And she was right! I couldn't imagine holding an infant, I thought it would be too hard at that point. But holding him as he snuggled up to me was awesome...and she just KNEW. It was cool!
Glad the Lion King was awesome! I really want to go see it! :)
