Over the last few months David and I have talked to a lot of agencies and facilitators, an agency usually will help you from start to finish and a facilitator is simply there to find birth parents for you. In the beginning David and I originally started out signing up with one facilitator in CA (kinda taking the al la carte approach to save a few $$), unfortunately after sending her 15 profiles she had only sent one out in four months. We decided we needed to get ourselves out there more! In the last month we have signed up with two agencies and one other facilitator, both agencies rely heavily on advertising across the country. Anyway, we are now getting somewhere and have started to receive calls about "situations" as they like to call them. So far, nothing has been a perfect fit for us, but we we have renewed hope that things will start progressing soon. It's nice to receive calls and to have some support, the past few months we have kinda felt just left out there on our own in terms of finding a birth mother. Thankfully we have had wonderful support from our friends and family.
We are not so much concerned about how LONG this takes as we are in knowing that our profiles are being viewed. We can't expect them to be flying off the shelves but to know that we are being considered for situations is comforting.
Even though we were disappointed to hear that Guatemala shut down their adoption program (about a year and a half ago) we have since learned of the struggle some families are going through that were in the middle of adoptions. We are thankful we didn't rush into the program as we may have been stuck like many families are. So many were matched with children and went to visit them (Guatemala allows you to visit your child prior to adoption taking place) and then have just watched their child grow up through photographs b/c travel back to Guatemala for the adoption is on hold. It's just so sad, thankfully though, some of the programs that were shut down are beginning to re-open. We are pleased that those children will now have hope to find families. We know that wherever we adopt from we are fulfilling our desire to grow our family through adoption. Who knows where adoption number two (and hopefully three...don't tell David ;)!!!) will take us but we are excited none the less!
Thank you all for your love and support! xxx
